BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 23, 2022) | Lawley, an independent family-owned insurance broker and employee benefits firm, is proud to announce the promotions of Beth Bauman and Maureen McMahon to a newly created position of Co-CFO. Together, they will lead Lawley’s accounting and finance departments along with executive leadership in operations, mergers, and acquisitions.

Bauman and McMahon have worked together, at various organizations, for more than thirty years. Prior to Lawley, they both occupied accounting roles at KPMG Peat Marwick and Buffalo Color Corporation. At Lawley, they have lead the accounting and finance department under former CFO, Mark Higgins, for the past two decades.

“There is nobody better out there to lead Lawley on the finance and accounting front than Beth and Maureen,” said Higgins, who is beginning to enjoy retirement. He will stay on as an advisor/consultant during the transition. “We wanted both of these leaders in the role of CFO because they have formed a wonderful partnership and compliment each others strengths. I know their collaboration and strategic initiatives will help Lawley continue to grow. I am proud to have worked alongside their leadership.”

Bauman will be responsible for the coordination of the accounting and finance operations. She is a New York State Certified Public Accountant and maintains her Chartered Global Management Accountant designation. She obtained her BS in Accounting from Canisius College and a Masters in Business Administration from the University at Buffalo. At Lawley, Bauman is an active member of Lawley Lingo, a Toastmasters Chapter Club. She is also actively involved with the Canisius College Council on Accountancy where she sits on the Communication & Networking Committee. Outside of Lawley, Bauman is a volunteer in the classroom for Junior Achievement for the following curriculums: JA Economics of Success, JA Take Stock in your Future, JA Career Success, JA Our Families. She is proud to serve on the board for Lancaster High School’s Academy of Finance (i.e., AOF) where she mentors, coaches and sponsors students for internships in students’ completion of AOF’s rigorous program.

McMahon will be responsible for strategic initiatives in the areas of finance, operations, sales, mergers, and acquisitions. She is a New York State Certified Public Accountant and maintains her New York State Insurance Brokers License along with maintaining her Certified Global Management Accountant designation. McMahon is affiliated with the American Institute of Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and is a previous board member for Our Lady of Charity Parish Finance Committee. She received her BA of Business Administration from Saint Bonaventure University.

“It is a privilege to be part of the Lawley organization. I am excited to move into the Co-CFO role where I will be able to work with Beth and help Lawley execute their strategic vision as a top insurance broker,” said McMahon.

“Maureen is a wonderful team mate and I look forward to the continued work we will do together at Lawley. This organization has been our home for quite some time, and moving into the role of Co-CFO is an amazing part of our career journeys,” said Bauman.

Both McMahon and Bauman will work out of Lawley’s corporate headquarters in Buffalo. They will serve to advise and strategize with Lawley leadership, including the principals and partners.

“There’s no doubt that we will miss Mark Higgins and the leadership he provided us over the past decades,” said Christopher Ross, Principal of Lawley. “But, we know that Lawley is in the strong and capable hands of two intelligent and strategic leaders who will help us grow and support our associates and clients now, and in the future.”
