Lawley Insurance Hires Director of Captive Services

Gernold moves to Lawley after risk management post at First Niagara

BUFFALO, NY July 5, 2011– Lawley Insurance today announced the addition of Andrew Gernold as Director of Captive Services.

Gernold joins Lawley after serving as a vice-president of risk management for First Niagara Financial Group and brings nine years of captive insurance expertise to the Lawley organization.

“Lawley has had captive vehicles available to our clients, but adding Andrew to our team will be invaluable in helping our clients meet their insurance program strategic objectives,” said Lawley Principal Bill Lawley Jr.

“We have an obligation to provide our clients and our community with the information and education needed to best address and manage their specific risk profiles,” said Lawley Principal Chris Ross. “Andy’s expertise in captives places us in a better position to assist our clients.”

A group captive is an insurance company owned and controlled by its shareholders/insureds, who band together with a desire to control their own insurance destiny through an alternative to traditional insurance. Member companies are usually entrepreneurial in nature with good loss histories and an overall safety culture. In a captive, companies gain ownership and control of all aspects, and specifically all costs, associated with their insurance programs.

“I am excited about joining the Lawley organization. I believe its emphasis on captive opportunities, coupled with my experience and expertise, will provide opportunities for clients and prospects across their footprint. All of this coupled with their independence, dynamic nature, and reputation creates a win-win situation,” said Gernold.

Gernold graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY with a BA in economics and environmental studies. He also carries a Broker’s License and Accident and Life License and holds a Certified Property Casualty (CPCU) designation. He and his wife and their five-year-old daughter live in Orchard Park.
